Photo: DA Vibes The Goodwill Primary School has officially received the keys to its newly renovated auditorium, which was destroyed during the passage of Hurricane Maria. The renovations were funded by Rubis West Indies Limited at a cost of one hundred and ninety thousand EC dollars. It was completed by the EdgeHill Fortune Associates Limited, in approximately three months, and will provide eight additional classrooms, which will accommodate the entire student body.
Chief Education Officer, Melena Fontaine stated at the official ceremony on Friday, “All fifty-eight primary and fifteen secondary schools were impacted by Hurricane Maria last September, and Goodwill Primary School was no exception. We saw major damage to the main building block as well the auditorium block. Furniture, equipment, and materials were destroyed. As a result, students of the Goodwill Primary School were unable to resume school last term. Thanks to the generosity of Rubis, all three hundred and fifty-seven students are able to be back at school from the start of the second academic term”. Fontaine added, “It is important to note that as a result of the rehabilitative work completed by Rubis, and the classroom space created for the first time since the school moved to this location, all the students of the school are able to report to school on the same shift. It means that the students are receiving more instructional time and hopefully moving forward, we will note improved academic performances by all the students”. Fontaine said that with the donation from Rubis, the Ebenezer Seventh Day Adventist Primary School now also has a facility to house their students, as their original building was compromised by Hurricane Maria. She stated further, “Although the school was able to resume last school term, they were forced to close before the end of the term, because of the continued deterioration of their facilities. Thankfully, due to the rehabilitation of the Goodwill primary school, & the fact that the Goodwill Primary School is now operating on one shift, the Ebenezer Seventh Day Adventist Primary School since the beginning of this 2nd term, has been able to operate at the Goodwill Primary School on the afternoon shift”.
