The Government says it is making good on an election promise, to construct an Indoor Sports facility, as it signed an EC $3.68Million contract today, for the designs of a National Multi-Sports Complex. The contract to the tune of EC $3, 681, 834 was signed with Puerto Rican firm Marques and Marques Arquitectos. The general scope of the work is said to include preparation of conceptual designs, schematic designs, preparation of construction documents, assistance with the construction bidding process and construction supervision. Following the signing ceremony, Sports Minister Justina Charles said strict timelines will be established for the implementation of that project. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says it is his hope that the facility will help encourage aspiring athletes to take their sports much more seriously. PM Skerrit says the sum of EC $40 Million for building the facility, has already been set aside from revenues generated through the CBI Program.
Meantime, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, says the DLP Government is continuing to make significant investments in sports on island. Skerrit said allocations will be made in the upcoming budget for improvements to the Geneva playing field in Grandbay.
