The father of a deceased man who was buried yesterday, is disappointed at the ruling of the court; as a previous charge of murder read to the accused (Ron Jolly), was change by the court to manslaughter.
Less than a week after being formerly charged with the murder of Kent Albert Lewis of Pointe Michel, the prosecution on Monday 29th May 2017, informed the court that the charge brought against Ron Jolly was being withdrawn, and replaced with manslaughter. The manslaughter charge was read to Ron Jolly, but he was not required to enter a plea. Bail has been set at EC$50,000, however, Jolly will need to get a property surety to guarantee his release. If bail is secured and he is out, Jolly must obtain permission to get a passport and must also seek permission to leave the state. The other conditions of bail are that he must inform the court and the police of any change of address within 72 hours prior to his decision. Additionally, he must report to the Roseau police station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, must not interfere with any witnesses in the matter who are known to him, and must be on good behaviour. The matter is set for hearing on 3rd July 2017. Here is the Arnold Lewis; Father of the Kent Lewis now deceased, speaking to Q95 at Tuesday’s funeral.
