Haiti Rotary Club President facilitates joint effort between Dominica & US charity ‘Waves for Water’11/7/2017 Fritz Pierre-Louis, President of a Rotary Club of in Haiti, District #7020 arrived in Dominica on 25th October 25, and engaged with the Portsmouth Rotary Club. His mission was to facilitate a joint effort between the Rotary Club and US-based charity ‘Waves for Water’, whose mandate is to deliver pure drinking water to those in extreme need.
The day after President Fritz arrived in Dominica, two representatives from Waves for Water, Brent Lievsay and Ben Bourgeois, sailed from St Croix, and arrived in Portsmouth with 460 filter units and 280 buckets. On Thursday October 26, they provided members of the Rotary Club of Portsmouth and several community representatives with 9 units, and trained them on how to assemble the kits. The following day Rotarians and volunteers provided training on how to assemble and use the units. 80 systems were distributed along the riverbank in Dublanc. 37 units were demonstrated and distributed in Portsmouth, at the home of Wayne Abraham, who had already assisted the community relief effort via ham radio, and had provided a needed place for people in the community who were without power, to charge their phones and other devices. 15 systems were provided at the Primary School in Savanne Paille, and in front of the UNICEF tent at Bense village primary school. 16 more systems were made available to households.
