Head of the Women’s Basketball Committee, Sawana Fabien, says “Women are not forgotten in basketball”, but she would like to see a movement in Dominica that empowers women through sports
“Women are not forgotten in Dominica’s basketball” says Head of the Women’s Basketball Committee, Sawana Fabien.
Ms. Fabien says women’s basketball in Dominica has not been on the front burner for some time and feels like now is an ideal time to get the sport on the roll again.
She would like to see the sport perpetuated, and not something for a buzz, or a two-league phase.
She would like to see it as something that relates more like a women’s empowerment movement, empowering women through sports.
Ms. Fabien says they want to dive into empowering women, leadership, confidence and mental toughness, on every level.
She says the committee sees this as an avenue to bring communities together through sports.
Fabien says the DABA is committed to having an exclusive approach in developing basketball in Dominica and will definitely include the women.
