Health Minister Dr Kenneth Darroux attended the 4th OECS Council of Ministers meeting in Grenada5/8/2017 Health Minister Dr. Kenneth Darroux, was among Environmental Ministers and Technical Officers from the OECS, as well as key regional partners, who attended the 4thOECS Council of Ministers meeting recently held in Grenada.The event was held under the theme "Accelerating Sustainable Development: Addressing Challenges, Creating Opportunities".
The Council is responsible for guiding the OECS Commission and making recommendations to the OECS Authority, on issues related to the environmental sustainability, staged that meeting which offered an opportunity for its member states, to strengthen regional partnerships in related matters, and also support members in increasing sustainability and minimizing vulnerability. Environmental Ministers and Technical officers from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS),as well as key regional partners and international Agencies,were in attendance. Protecting the region’s natural resources for the social and economic benefits of the people, was also a main factor discussed at the meeting. Other key areas of interest included water resource management, climate change, energy, and issues related to environmental sustainability and natural disasters, in Small Island Developing States. The meeting also saw the official launch of the EU funded iLAND Resilience initiative, which covers the OECS managed Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA) project, that focuses on sustainable development in Small Island Developing States.
