The Ministry of Health and Social Services through the Health Promotion Unit and Primary Health Care Services has completed revising and updating cervical cancer guidelines.
This draft document was revised by experts in the field in two working group sessions, and feedback was received at a national stakeholder’s consultation on 27th June 2019. Cancer remains a leading cause of death among women in Dominica. Cervical Cancer, for the most part, is preventable with early intervention through the use of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine and pap smears. The cervical cancer control and management guidelines once finalized will be adopted and used nationally. The unit intends to embark on an extensive education and sensitization campaign on these guidelines. The Health Promotion Unit says it is certain that advocacy training in cervical cancer control and management will be critical as a partner in the dissemination of information from these guidelines to the public. It is on this premise that the Ministry of Health and Social Services through the Health Promotion Unit has invited the Program Director or News Editor of news media to attend a training on Cervical Cancer in Dominica, the Country’s approach to cervical cancer prevention, Overview of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), HPV Disease & its relation to Cervical cancer and HPV Vaccine on August 30, 2019, from 8am to 1pm at the Dominica Public Service Union building.
