High Seas Alliance, in collaboration with the UNEP Cartagena Convention Secretariat and Earth Echo International, will host the Caribbean Regional BBNJ Conference on January 30, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM EST. This virtual event will bring together stakeholders, including civil society organizations, youth, academics, indigenous communities, and policymakers, to discuss the High Seas (BBNJ) Treaty and its importance for the Caribbean's marine ecosystems and ocean economy.
The High Seas Alliance encourages Dominicans to attend the conference as participants will learn about the BBNJ Treaty and its implications for the region - Explore strategies for ratifying and implementing the treaty - Participate in workshops and discussions for civil society, youth, and indigenous groups, and Network with regional leaders and ocean governance advocates. A keynote presentation will be delivered by Dr. Dayne Buddo, who will discuss the economic and environmental impact of the High Seas on the Caribbean. A Panel Discussion will be conducted on topics like marine genetic resources, environmental impact assessments, marine protected areas, and capacity building.
