Photo: Dominica News Online LaPlaine Village Councillor Jason Fontaine describes the recent handing over of a few houses to residents in LaPlaine, as a carnival. He referred to a video clip of an event, where one of the recipients Mr Worrell Cuffy gained much laughter from the crowd, for stating that MP St Jean did not beat him “early enough”, in order that he might have received a house earlier. Cuffy had accused St Jean in September 2016 of kidnapping and assaulting him and two others, for the alleged theft of dasheen from his personal garden. Fontaine says this was a heart-breaking moment to see Labour Party members laughing at Mr Cuffy’s admission of having been beaten by MP Peter St Jean. Meanwhile, Fontaine calls on Police Chief Daniel Carbon to investigate LaPlaine MP Petter St Jean, for the alleged assault of two individuals of the community.
In September of 2016, St Jean was accused of allegedly kidnapping and assaulting three individuals from the community for the alleged theft of dasheen from the minister’s personal garden. St Jean has since denied it, despite the individuals continued claims. Fontaine says he will continue to defend the people of LaPlaine as long as he can.
