Lemar Irish ‘De Irish Kid’ has won the Junior Monarch Calypso Title for the fourth consecutive year2/20/2017 Photo: Dominica Calypso Facebook Page Lemar Irish ‘De Irish Kid’ of the St John’s Academy in Portsmouth has won the Junior Monarch Calypso Title for the fourth consecutive year, with a song entitled ‘You Can Depend On Me’, written by Livingston Cassel. He competed against ten other students at the Eddie Andre Festival City in Pottersville on Friday 17th February 2017.
Lemar said words could not fully express the extent to which he was overwhelmed, excited, and elated. He added that it was not a hard competition, but everybody had confidence in themselves, but he performed at his best. De Irish Kid won his first Junior Calypso Monarch title in 2014 with a song entitled ‘I choosing Calypso’, also written by Livingston Cassel, to whom he expressed his gratitude, for writing his songs for the four years that he won the competition. Nickima Alfred, De Empress of the St Martin’s Secondary placed second with a song entitled Tou jou Tarts (Always Late) written by Ian Jackson. Shakera Williams ‘Shakera’ of the Isaiah Thomas Secondary placed third with a song entitled Mr Step Daddy, written by Ian Jackson. Yahbai Frederick, ‘De Spider’ of the St Mary’s Academy placed fourth with a song entitled ‘Little School Boy’ written by Pat Aaron. The others competitors were Mighty D of the Dominica Community High School, Might Serrant and Mighty Boyd of the St. Luke’s Primary School, Mighty Boy of the Roseau Primary, Mighty Franso of the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School, and Mc Krissy and Stinger B of the Convent High School. Andrea Seaman-Williams of the Dominica Leo Club said the competition was very well attended, and the participants did very well.
