‘Local Government Month’ observed in May is ‘Promoting Partnerships through Local Government’5/2/2017 ‘Local Government Month’ which is observed in May, is this year ‘Promoting Partnerships through Local Government’. The Department of Local Government has been observing May as Local Government Month since 1989.
This year’s activities for the month are being undertaken by the Local Government Department, the Dominica Association of Local Community Authorities (DALCA), and the Village Councils around the island. A large number of these activities are being executed at the community level, by the various local authorities. The headline activity for this month is a National Consultation being hosted in partnership with DALCA and Ross University. The month is carded to be officially opened today Tuesday 2nd May 2017, with a church service at the Grand Bay Roman Catholic Church, followed by a television and radio address from Honorable Catherine Daniel, Minister for Social Services, Family and Gender Affairs. The Local Government Department is urging the public to participate in all of the planned activities, to ensure that they are part of the decision making process, and ensure that governance is done in a transparent manner, and all those responsible are also accountable.
