It is unknown at this time as to why and when that problem occurred, but the old Macoucherie Estate Bridge must now be utilized as an alternative route. During Tropical Storm Erika in 2015, the original bridge was washed away, and was subsequently replaced by a Bailey bridge.
That Bailey Bridge was itself subsequently affected by flood waters from a trough system which poured substantial rain on Dominica in December 2016. However, those in authority declared it was safe after carrying out some repair works.
In March 2017 the Bailey bridge collapsed and in that same month, the Ministry of Public Works said it was working urgently to install a new permanent Macoucherie Bridge.
