Met Office tells Dominicans prepare for Hurricane Jose and unstable weather by Friday into Saturday

Acting senior Meteorological Officer Marshall Alexander is advising Dominicans to monitor the progress of Hurricane Jose, which is presently in the Atlantic, and to make preparations for its arrival. Jose is expected to create unstable weather across Dominica by Friday into Saturday, and especially Saturday.
 
He said the system will create showers which will be moderate to heavy at times with gusty winds, combined with heavy seas. He added, “Our biggest concern is for feeder bands from Jose moving across Dominica”.
 
At 5 am, Hurricane Jose was located near latitude 14.8 degrees north and longitude 49.1 degrees west or about 815 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. Maximum sustained winds are at 90 mph with higher gusts and the system is expected to strengthen in the coming days. Hurricane force winds extend up to 15 miles from the center and Tropical Storm force winds extend up to 80 miles
 
Current projections show the system will be near the Leeward Islands by Friday into Saturday and Hurricane and Tropical Storm Watches will likely be required for some of these islands later this morning.
 
Several of the Leeward Islands were severely affected by Hurricane Irma earlier this week, and are still reeling from the devastation caused by the powerful Category 5 storm.
