Former DFP Leader Michael Astaphan says the Disaster Preparedness Organization Program has been dismantled by the Prime Minister of Dominica, in his efforts to secure votes. Astaphan addressed the matter of disaster preparedness on the DFPs Weekly Wednesday evening show, ‘freedom and you’, on Q95fm Radio. Astaphan went on to say, there was a routine process by which surveys were done by a selected group of individuals who gather data and information. These surveys would tell the extent of damage done in certain areas, and in some cases, the materials needed. Astaphan says, that program has been dismantled by the present DLP Administration, & this serves the opposite purpose to building resilience. Meanwhile, Astaphan addressed the matter of poverty in Dominica, on Wednesday evening on the DFP Weekly ‘freedom and you’ program on Q95. He says the private sector and social organizations do not have the statists needed to help improve the poverty situation in Dominica. Mr Astaphan went on to say that there was a poverty elevation project which had over 100 million dollars invested in its operations, with the intention of decreasing poverty. When the data was released, it showed that poverty had increased rather than decreased, but the present administration threw away the report. Astaphan said it is not logical to try to run a country without government or the NGOs having statistics to indicate progress, or otherwise. Mr. Michael Astaphan
