Mickiel Jean-Jacques appeared before the magistrate’s court on Friday, 30th June 2017, where he pleaded guilty to one charge of possession of cannabis. The 19-year-old of Morne Prosper was given a suspended sentence by Magistrate Bernard Pacquette. According to the prosecution, Jean-Jacques was arrested on Wednesday 28th June 2017 in Yampiece, Stockfarm, after two police officers on patrol in the area, found that he appeared “suspicious and fidgety”.
The patrolling officers approached Jean-Jacques, who was with another man, and asked him if he was in possession of any illegal drug, to which he replied ‘no’. The police officers however proceeded to search him, and found a small green and black bag around his waist, in which small bags of packaged cannabis were found. He was then arrested and taken to Police Headquarters in Roseau. Jean-Jacques had no previous convictions, and was fined $1000.00), which was suspended for one year. If he is arrested during this one-year period, he will have to pay that fine, and in default, he will be imprisoned for six months.
