The first rotation of the “Mission Milagro or Miracle Mission” Eye programme medical team has ended in Dominica. The programme, which begun in Dominica in December 2016, in the first rotation, performed three hundred and eleven (311) surgeries on two hundred and nine (209) patients suffering from visual impairments, caused by cataract and pterygium [terry-gee-um], at the Operating Theatre of the Princess Margaret Hospital. Health Minister Dr. Kenneth Darroux expressed his pleasure over the program’s success thus far, and the benefits to Dominican citizens. Program’s Coordinator Director of Primary Health Care Services and Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr Laura Esprit, says Rotation two is expected to begin in early August, 2017 and will end in November 2017. Three hundred and eight (308) pre –screened patients are expected to be seen from the remaining Health Districts of Marigot, Portsmouth and Grand Bay.
