CaribbeanNewsNow reported on Wednesday December 13, 2017, that Montreal Management Consultants Est (MMCE) Ltd announced an expansion of its project, to provide affordable houses in Bellevue Chopin in Dominica, to house displaced residents of Petite Savanne, following Tropical Storm Erika.
The project was prevented from delivering 201 housing units in January 2018 as planned, due to the passage of Hurricane Maria on September 18, 2017. However, project developer, Dr Anthony Haiden, has signaled his commitment to assist the government and people of Dominica, by moving assiduously towards completion of the Bellevue Chopin Project. MMCE said in planning this project, it paid careful attention to the vulnerabilities of Dominica to weather events, and employed suitable technology and best practices in the construction of the new community. He says, for this reason, the project suffered no physical impact as a result of Hurricane Maria, and work has now been resumed on site, as conditions improve in Dominica. MMCE says further, that it has obtained approval from the government of Dominica, to expand the Bellevue Chopin project to provide more residential units, additional infrastructure, and other facilities. MMCE also says it has submitted and received approval to create new, modern and climate-resilient communities in the Pond area, adjacent to the Financial Centre, and also in Georgetown, Glanvillia in Portsmouth, and that the project will greatly improve the ambience, and enhance the quality of life of residents, and will stimulate economic activity in the two areas. To provide further details of the new projects, MMCE says it will present updates on the Bellevue Chopin project, and plans for the new Roseau & Portsmouth projects, at the government’s daily press briefing on Monday December 18, 2017.
