Monsignor William Jno Lewis urged all Dominicans to “Leave a legacy that will inspire others”, while delivering the homily at the funeral service for the late Kurt Matthew.
Matthew was the Engineer at the Dominica Broadcasting Corporation, DBS. He was hit by a bus on the E O Leblanc Highway in Canefield, on 26th November 2017, and died from the wounds sustained. He was buried on Saturday 15th December 2017. Monsignor Jno Lewis told the very large gathering of people who attended the funeral at the Fatimah Church in New Town, “What will matter, is not what you bought, but what you built; not what you got, but what you gave; what will matter is not your success, but your significance; what will matter is not what you learned, but what you taught; what will matter is every act of integrity, courage, compassion or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate your example; what will matter is not your competence, but your character; what will matter is not how many people you knew, but how many will feel a lasting loss when you’re gone”. Monsignor Jno Lewis exhorted the congregation to put on the dressing of integrity, love and holiness, as he referenced the words of the Apostle Paul from the Book of Colossians in the Bible. Monsignor Jno Lewis stated “He (St Paul) says as God’s chosen ones, Holy and Beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience. Bear with one another and if anyone has a complaint against you, forgive each other just as the Lord has forgiven you, so also, you must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love which binds everything together in perfect harmony and, let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called into one body and be grateful”. 48-year-old Kurt Matthew will always be remembered for his courageous efforts in keeping DBS Radio on-air during and immediately after the passage of category-5 Hurricane Maria on 18th September 2017. May his Soul rest in peace. Q95fm Radio extends condolences to the family and friends of the late Kurt Matthew.
