MP for the Wesley Constituency, Ezekiel Bazil is calling on Minister of Health, Dr. Kenneth Darroux to take immediately action and address the situation at the National Marigot Hospital.
Health authorities say they were left with no choice but to temporarily shut down the hospital, due to mold and fungus. They admit that they were aware of the issues facing the hospital, and in its 2014 general election manifesto, the DLP had ensured the public that plans were being made to have the facility renovated as a trauma centre. However, Wesley MP Ezekiel Bazil says since then “nothing has been done. I am calling on the Minister of Health to take immediate corrective measures. Government must seek to address this situation early because this has the potential to get out of hand and people will suffer. The situation as it is, has the potential to see the demise of people, and I am not prepared to sit by and look at government’s intentional and deliberate move to destroy the medical services in the district, and in the Commonwealth of Dominica.” He believes that the Marigot and Portsmouth Hospitals must be significantly strengthened, in light of the construction of the new Princess Margaret Hospital.
