Salisbury MP Hector John has classified the recent ruling of Judge Bernie Stephenson Brooks as a big win for the people of Salisbury. Judge Bernie Stephenson Brooks has ruled in favour of the residents of Salisbury who filed a constitutional motion in 2016 through their attorney, Miss Cara Shillingford, challenging the constitutionality of the Riot Act. On 31st July and 1st August 2015, Several residents of Salisbury were served with court summons in relation to protests which took place in the community, on May 11 and June 11, 2015. MP for the constituency, Hector John, told media his name is on the list to be served however the summons never reached him. At the time, John said two police officers were in Salisbury distributing the summons, however he has not seen the one intended for him. Meantime, speaking to Q95 news today Wednesday 18th April 2018, John said the Government’s attorney Anthony Astaphan wanted the matter to be struck off, and the first matter against the people of Salisbury should continue in the Magistrate’s court. However, the judge agreed with the submission made by Miss Shillingford and ruled that the matter proceed in the High Court on May 24th 2018. The Salisbury MP says the behavior of the government in this matter is unfortunate. Meanwhile, John is confident his constituents will prevail in the ongoing court matter. He said the case was adjourned to May 24, 2018, and the ruling stated that the matter should proceed in the High Court. Salisbury MP Hector John
