October 12, 2019 marked the official opening of the 2019/2020 cruise season, and the MV Crown Princess of Princess Cruises arrived at the Woodbridge Bay Port on Saturday October 12th, 2019 bringing approximately 3,000 passengers to Dominica’s shores, to open up the season. The ship docked from 9:00am until 6:00pm. The MV Crown Princess is scheduled to make nine (9) calls to the island for the 2019/2020 cruise season. Tourism service providers are said to be all geared up for an active cruise season after a six-months hiatus. Sites and attractions on the island have bounced back to some extent, and visitors can anticipate a rejuvenating experience while on island. A total of 157 cruise calls are projected for the 2019/2020 cruise season which equates to approximately 288,159 cruise passengers. Dominica expects to welcome four (4) new cruise ships to its shores. Inaugural ceremonies to include plaque exchanges will be held aboard the respective ships. According to Director of Tourism Collin Piper, Dominica received over 200,000 thousand visitors in the 2019-2020 tourist season, and is expected to receive more cruise visitors this season.
