National HIV/AIDS Response Program Coordinator Allison Samuel receives Regional Testing Day Award6/6/2017 According to a release, Dominica National HIV/AIDS Response Program Coordinator, Allison Samuel received a Most Improved Award, at the 10th Anniversary Regional Testing Day Awards Ceremony Media Launch, on Friday 26th May, at the Hilton Barbados Resort in Bridgetown Barbados.
Miss Samuels was reportedly recognized for her winning approach that reaped benefits to many more Dominicans, knowing their HIV status. This has resulted in the dramatic increase in the numbers of people tested in Dominica from 90 in 2015 to 800 in 2016. Thirty-three (33) awards were presented to organizations and individuals from across the Caribbean who worked over the last ten years in support of Regional Testing Day (RTD) activities. The milestone 10th Anniversary of Regional Testing Day for HIV AIDS in the Caribbean, was also launched at this event. The Caribbean Media Alliance, LIVE UP, presented awards to 21 individuals and 12 organizations, as part of its continued promotion of its unique media brand, addressing HIV and issues of human rights and social justice in the Caribbean. The awardees came from St. Lucia, Jamaica Belize, Haiti, Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua & Barbuda, Trinidad & Tobago, St. Kitts-Nevis, Dominica and the British Virgin Islands. The 10th Anniversary Regional Testing Day will be on 30th June. It is preceded by a 1-month campaign launched on 26th May, to raise public awareness.
