New Atkinson/Antrizle Village Council Chairman Paul Baron has revealed a few plans for the two communities. The council was inaugurated today March 21, 2017.
Those plans are said to involve teaming with young people to determine their needs, in the interest of youth development. This includes plans for a Computer Centre and Library, as well as a Community Resource Center. They also plan to make full use of the existing playing field to advance Sports activities, particularly among the youth. The new Council also plans to focus on vocational training for those who are not so academically inclined, in collaboration with the Adult Education Department and the Youth Division. They will also seek to boost employment through the current National Employment Program, and through the development of Small Businesses., in areas such as production of Cocoa, Coconut Oil and Cassava among others. The Council says it will also seek to develop the community’s Tourism Products, in such a way that it becomes a place of choice for community tourism enthusiasts, whether through lodgings, sight-seeing and adventure tourism, utilizing their natural resources and products such as the Bigger River Blow Hole (or Dragon’s Mouth); Pagua Rock or Spirit Rock as it is known locally and High Rise Watch.
