NGO’s for Youth Protection to host 2nd Town Hall Meeting on "Stamping out Gender Based Violence"3/1/2017 The NGO Coalition for the protection of children and youth, is gearing up to host its second Town Hall meeting tomorrow Thursday, at the Mahaut market from 5pm, on the topic "Stamping out Gender Based Violence".
According to a release, this meeting will be hosted by the Sickle Cell Cares Foundation, in collaboration with the West Dominica Children's Federation, and supported by the Bureau of Gender Affairs. This is the second event in the "Stamp Out Gender Based Violence" Campaign, where the seventeen organizations that make up the Coalition are heading to various districts across Dominica, to explain the meaning of the new bill that was passed in 2016, amending the Sexual Offences Act. The Coalition stated in a release, "We will be calling for the full implementation of the Act, including its gazetting, so that the police can have the authority to arrest those accused of grooming, and voyeurism; and victims can be assured that their cases will be taken seriously". A Panel of Advocates from the NGO Coalition will also be present, and will answer questions posed from those who are attending. Art activities are also expected to take place, as people are encouraged to paint their feet and make footprints, to show their solidarity with the campaign to "Stamp out Gender Based Violence".
