Opposition Leader tells Electoral Commission not to conduct another General Election without Reforms4/19/2017 Opposition Leader Lennox issued a warning to the Electoral Commission that Dominica will not have another general election without Electoral Reform. He says the commission appears to be exclusively consumed with only the DLP Government’s proposal for Electoral Reform, which would further corrupt the next General Election. Linton says, the people of Dominica have been patient for the last nine years, and enough is enough. Meanwhile, member of Dominica’s Electoral Commission, Hillary Shillingford, is expressing disappointment in fellow commissioner Alick Lawrence’s attitude, in handling and discussing the affairs of the Electoral Commission.
Shillingford says the Commission was recently visited by six Commonwealth Officials who have worked with various commissions throughout the Commonwealth, with a view to assisting them in improving Dominica’s electoral legislation. According to Shillingford, the purpose of the visit was to discuss the current state of the Electoral Commission as well as to assist in the process of Electoral Reform. He is concerned that Alick Lawrence does not seem to be inclined to cooperate, in a manner that will see a successful conclusion to those discussions.
