Opposition UWP demands the Skerrit Led DLP Administration cease persecuting them immediately2/21/2017 In a press release on Tuesday, the United Workers Party (UWP) called on the Skerrit led DLP Administration, to put an immediate end to its persistent unabated political persecution of members of the Opposition United Workers Party (UWP) and the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP).
On Monday 20th February 2017 at about 5:30 am, the home of Roseau Central MP Joseph Isaac was invaded by police officers dressed in full army camouflage and gear. The police officers entered his residence, and searched it, following which Isaac was arrested and transported to police Headquarters, without any clear reason for his arrest. The release continued by stating that other government departments, specifically the Environmental Health officers also visited Isaac’s business eatery, twice in fourteen-days, including the morning of his arrest. Analysis of the dates on which the opposition people members have been arrested, clearly shows a very disturbing pattern of harassment and political persecution unfolding: Dr. Samuel Christian, Executive Member of the Dominica Freedom Party, was arrested on 2nd February 2017. Senator Dr. Thompson Fontaine, Executive Member of the UWP, arrested on 12th February 2017. Mr. Claudius Sandford, former Senator & former UWP Deputy Leader, and Caretaker of the Kalinago Territory Constituency, was arrested on 15th February 2017. Mr. Sharmon Andrew, “a truck driver”, arrested on 17th February 2017. Mr. Johnson Boston, former Senator and present Executive Member of the Dominica Freedom Party, was arrested on 17th February 2017. Hon. Joseph Isaac current Parliamentary representative of the Roseau Central Constituency, arrested on 20th February 2017. Everyone arrested, with the exception of one has been freed without being charged by the Police. These arrests are predicated on the figment of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit’s imagination, that a coup had been plotted against his administration. Although the Leadership of the United Workers Party has strenuously and categorically denied, and continues to deny this charge, the political persecution continues.
