Opposition UWP Team Dominica Leader Lennox Linton is calling on President Charles Savarin to remove Gerald Burton as Chairman of the Electoral Commission, as he is blocking electoral reforms, for which the people of Dominica have been strongly advocating for years. Addressing the nation on Thursday night via the “Workers Voice” program aired on Q95fm Radio, Linton explained the two main demands from the majority of the people of Dominica, country, which are simply, an accurate voters list, and Voters’ Identification Cards. Linton says it has been eleven years now since this concern of electoral reform has been raised with the present administration, and the current Chairman of the electoral commission Mr. Gerald Burton has also been chairman for thirteen years, and yet these two simple demands by Dominicans have not been met. Linton claims that on 11th June 2019, he wrote to the President of Dominica his Excellency Charles Saverin on the issue of misbehavior in the chairmanship of the electoral commission. Linton says he is of the view that after thirteen years and two election cycles with no results on reforms, this has to amount to misbehavior in the chairmanship of the electoral commission. Mr. Linton then proceeded to read the response letter received by the President of Dominica, in which he stated that the letter is being referred to the Attorney General of Dominica, Peter Levi. Linton says whereas the President of Dominica advised that he was seeking the opinion of Attorney General Levi Peter, it is well known that attorney general Levi Peter has a proven history of loyalty to the DLP administration.
