Opposition wants PM Skerrit to disclose the reasons RBC chose to stop maintaining Govt's CBI account5/25/2017 Opposition Leader Lennox Linton wants Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit to come clean on the reasons that the Royal Bank of Canada decided to close the Government's CBI account, while it had an amount in excess of EC $250Million dollars. Speaking on Q95's Hot Seat Thursday, Linton alleged that it is quite possible, that the bank may have had concerns; and he wondered whether some of those concerns may have had to do with the possibility of monies coming into the bank from questionable sources, which could expose the institution to fines. He says they have continuously urged the Government to protect the sources of revenue generated from the CBI program. Meanwhile, Linton is also questioning Government reports regarding the use of funds generated from the CBI Program.
He says according to reports presented in parliament, it appears that either too much money is being spent on marketing the CBI program, or not enough is being spent on due diligence. According to Linton, some $35.2M was allocated to the company responsible for marketing the CBI Program, during the 1st half of this fiscal year, while the monies paid for due diligence was $15.6M. Due diligence is critical to safeguarding the CBI Program, and Linton questions whether enough money is being allocated for that purpose.
