Tassia Floissac and JCI collaborated to host that two-part competition.
Orion Academy placed first in the School’s Environment Public Speaking Competition. They beat the Pierre Charles Secondary School, the Dominica Grammar School and the Convent High School. Orion Academy also placed 3rd in the ‘Trash to Treasure,” Recyclable Fancy Hat Competition, by defeating the Dominica Grammar School and the Convent High School, and thereby giving it the most points of the day, and that propelled them to emerge as the overall winner. Christine Auguiste represented the Orion Academy in the Impromptu Public Speaking competition. She received a trophy, 3 months’ broadband compliments Digicel, a Natural gift basket, twenty dollars’ credit voucher compliments Digicel, and a complimentary ride for two from Nature Island Adventure Tours. The Dominica Grammar School placed first in the ‘Trash to Treasure’ Recyclable Hats competition, and received a trophy, a medal, three months’ broadband compliments Digicel, twenty dollars’ credit compliments Digicel, and a lunch for two at the Fort Young Hotel. The Convent High School placed second and Orion Academy third. Eight primary schools also participated in the ‘Trash to Treasure segment, and seven schools modeled hats made mainly from recycled items. Organizer of the competition, Ms. Tasia Floissac stated that she came up with the idea after the launch of the Miss Jaycees International 2017 last month in Antigua.
