PM Skerrit accusing the UWP & the DFP of having planned to overthrow his Government on Tuesday night

​Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is accusing the leadership of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) and the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) of having planned to overthrow his Government on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, following a peaceful meeting in Roseau.
 
Just a few hours after the end of a peaceful protest/meeting on Tuesday, it was reported that some young persons, many of whom have reportedly now been arrested and are in police custody, had started vandalizing some business premises in Roseau, set roadblocks, set some garbage bins on fire, vandalizing several businesses, and also set fire to at least one business place.
 
During an address to the nation on Wednesday night, the Prime Minister revealed that details of the opposition’s plans were leaked to police by members of the UWP and DFP, who did not support the militant frame of mind of their leaders, who allegedly intended to stall a truck in front the Financial Centre and storm the building.

​He went on to accuse the opposition leader Lennox Linton of inciting the violence which took place, and which is now the subject of ongoing investigations into the matter.
