PM Skerrit announces parliament will no longer consider his proposed amendments to Electoral Laws5/26/2017 Parliament is expected to be adjourned without further consideration of matters that are presently on the Order Paper.
The announcement was made by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, in an official address to the nation just after 3pm this afternoon. He said he has advised the Speaker of the House, Alix Boyd-Knights, that parliament re-convene tomorrow, Friday May 26, 2017, and adjourned without further consideration of matters on the order paper. Skerrit says this is in an effort to avoid confrontation which others are seeking. His statement comes on the heels of protest action outside of the parliament building on Tuesday, against amendments to the Election Act which the Government sought to legislate, based on the perception that it will legalize treating and bribery in Dominica’s elections. Mr Skerrit claimed that he will not put anyone in harm's way, in relation to the matter, stating that failure to pass the amendments and the other laws in a in the short run, is not too high a price to pay.
