PM Skerrit planning more overseas trips to do damage control for CBI now under international scrutiny

​PM Skerrit is now planning to undertake more overseas trips, and according to him, this is in order to do damage control with respect to CBI. That program is now under serious scrutiny in the international community, due to high profile arrests of foreign nations, some of whom were holding Dominica’s Diplomatic passports at the time of their arrest.
 
However, Skerrit says he will be visiting several countries around the world to reassure potential stakeholders in the Citizenship By Investment (CBI) program, because of what he said is criticism by Dominica’s Opposition United Workers Party (UWP).
 
Skerrit made the announcement while addressing a Town Hall Meeting at the Barracoon Building in Roseau on Thursday evening. He contends that there is a calculated attack on the CBI Program by the UWP leadership, which financed by people external to Dominica, “who do not have any interest in Dominica or in Marigot or anywhere else in Dominica, but who are seeking to destroy the country and the CBI.”
 
He said that the UWP campaign will have a negative impact on the revenue coming from the CBI program, but the UWP has always said it support the island’s CBI Program, but is concerned that there is a lack of due diligence, transparency and accountability.
 
At a press conference in January 2017, Linton said the party is “concerned that the program has been mismanaged and corrupted into become primarily a source of Labour Party election campaign financing, and wealth creation for a select few people, while millions promised to national development in constituencies like Marigot, have failed to materialized.”
