Police Officers in Marigot complain that they have been abandoned by the Police High Command12/11/2017 Marigot Police Officers are complaining that the station where they live is in a terrible condition following Hurricane Maria, and that they feel abandoned by the Police High Command. The roof of their building was blown away by the storm and officers say no repairs have since been made.
Reports are that after the storm, they were visited by Deputy Police Chief Davidson Valerie and National Security Ministry Permanent Secretary, Jo-Anne Commodore, but nothing has been done. The officers claim that water from the roof is a major problem whenever it rains, and their premises are infested with mold and mosquitos. One officer is said to have fallen sick on two occasions, because of the conditions, and others have been allegedly complaining of severe coughs. Other institutions operating in the building, such as the Treasury Department and Magistrate’s Court, have been relocated but the police station remained there. The officers say “The situation is bad, and we feel abandoned. Meanwhile, reports indicate that other police stations on the east coast that were damage during Maria have already been repaired, while the Marigot Police Station has been left untouched. The officers are now calling on Police Chief Daniel Carbon to visit the station, to witness the conditions himself.
