PPOD Leader tells Dominica Bar Association members fearlessly stand up for their rights and causes5/18/2018 PPOD Leader Sapphire Carrington is advocating that Dominica Bar Association members stand up for their rights as it relates to their recent actions, where Attorneys from their membership marched through the streets of Roseau on 17th April 2018, to highlight the condition of the courts in Dominica post Hurricane Maria. Q95 news confirmed that the attorneys walked from the High Court on the Bayfront to the Financial Center, and delivered a letter of concern to Justice Minister, Rayburn Blackmoore through his permanent secretary. Later that week Blackmoore told media he did not receive any letter, nor did he know of any issues in the work environment at the courts. On 17th April 2018, President of the Dominica Bar Association, Mary Roberts, told Q95 news, the attorneys are very concerned about the conditions at the courts, which have not been fully operational since Maria devastated Dominica last September. Additionally, she said the Association’s action was “not a protest” but “simply a casual walk to the Financial Center to deliver a letter to the Minister of Justice through the permanent Secretary, Ann Lewis. We met with her and delivered the letter to her personally.” However, many say this statement that the Bar association’s action was not a protest, came as a shock.
