President of the Dominica Olympic Committee, Felix Wilson says the reason for Dominica’s slow development in the Sports Industry, is the lack of recognition of the DOC to the International Olympic Committee. DOC Treasurer Phillip White highlighted a prime example to support Mr Wilson’s statement. White and Wilson were speaking on Q95’s Governance on Q show, on Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, White says, the D.O.C has continued to diligently engage and train the local sporting groups to function effectively. White gave some examples of some of the steps the D.O.C took in 2016 Wilson says while Dominica may have great sporting talents, the method by which athletes are trained has limited their performances and true potential. Wilson stated that competing on grass, hand timing, and crooked tape measurements does not give a true reflection of an athlete’s performance. He says he has appealed to the Government of Dominica to lease land to the DOC, in efforts to initiate a complex, starting with track and field. Wilson went on to say the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is able to aid Dominica in these efforts, on condition that Government makes its contribution as a partner.
