President Savarin tries to assure Dominicans government is committed to reviving the economic12/28/2017 Dominica’s President Charles Savarin is attempting to assure citizens of the government's commitment toward reviving the local economy. He says it will take some time, as a nation and as a people, for full recovery from the ravages of Hurricane Maria, which struck the island on 18th September 2017, causing widespread devastation amounting to over one Billion of dollars in damage to the island's infrastructure. He is calling on the nation to be very thankful to God during this season. In his Christmas address to the nation President Savarin said "We should not allow this horrendous ordeal to take control of our lives, to the extent that it becomes the determining factor in decision making that involves our relationship with God." Mr Savarin says given the tremendous efforts, hard work, commitment, dedication, resilience and support from regional partners and the international community, Dominica has already made tremendous progress in its relief and recovery efforts. Savarin says meantime, government has taken a decision to establish outside of the public service system, a new executing agency, namely the 'Climate Resilient Agency for Dominica' (CREAD), which he hopes will be charged with the responsibility of undertaking all reconstruction works.
