Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced an urgent meeting for Monday involving key stakeholders and ministries engaged in the International Airport Development Project to address environmental concerns raised by residents of Deux Branches. The community has voiced alarm over the environmental impacts stemming from the extensive mining activities currently underway in the area as part of the massive infrastructure development. Following a personal tour of the site on Thursday, the Prime Minister moved swiftly to convene the official discussion, signaling the government’s direct response to the community's environmental safety fears. The government's decision to pause mining operations and initiate dialogue has been welcomed by Marigot Constituency Parliamentary Representative Anthony Charles. Charles stated that he supports the government’s move to meet with stakeholders and directly discuss the issues raised by his constituents. This engagement aims to collaboratively develop methods to mitigate the adverse effects of the mining and ensure that the project can proceed while upholding environmental safeguards and addressing the well-being of the Deux Branches residents.
