The Dominica Police Welfare association recently addressed the general Publicon some of the issues faced within the police force.Speaking on Q95’s “Hot Seat” show hosted by Matt Peltier Jr.,the Associations attorney John E Charles explained some of the challenges. He noted weaknesses in some of the rules that govern police operations saying, “If we are going to operate without a written document or guidelines, we are going to encounter challenges.”. Charles believes as Dominica evolves, the approach to employment should also evolve, in order to ensurea disciplined police force, in an age where decisions have to be made based on reliable information. He contends that in a Democratic society, two important principles are Transparency and accountability. He says these principles seem to be lacking in Dominica on whole, and specifically in the police force.
