Reparations Committee Chairman Dr. Damien Dublin urges greater faith in Caribbean financial governance

Dr. Damien Dublin, Chairman of the Dominica National Reparations Committee, addressed public skepticism surrounding reparations, pointing out that many people wrongly view the movement solely through a monetary lens. 

He expressed concern that while citizens readily celebrate Caribbean achievements in other sectors, there remains an undue skepticism toward the ability of regional governments to manage financial resources effectively. 

Dublin emphasized that Caribbean nations have consistently demonstrated their capacity to handle significant funding through loans, grants, and international financial agreements to execute vital development projects across the islands. 

Dublin urged the public to adopt a more practical perspective and place greater trust in local institutions and governance. Dismissing fears that financial reparations would be mishandled by political administrations, he noted that governments are temporary, changing with each election cycle. 

Pointing to regional economic successes—such as the long-standing stability of the Eastern Caribbean (EC) dollar—Dublin highlighted the resilience and competence of Caribbean people and leadership in managing complex economic systems.
