Roseau City Council Workers protest over the lack of appointment of a Town Clerk by Mayor Irene John4/5/2017 Photo: Dominica News Online Q95 recently spoke to Claudette Toussaint, someone related to the Roseau City Council, about a protest which began early Wednesday morning. Toussaint said the workforce is protesting the failure of Mayor Irene John, to give effect to the appointment of a town clerk, who was duly elected. Toussaint told Q95, a vote was held to appoint a town clerk, and eight out of ten persons who could vote, had voted for Ms Irma Augustine for the post. Protestors allege that Mayor John refused to sign documents appointing Augustine as clerk for unknown reasons, although Augustine is qualified for the position. One protestor said, “She wants whoever she wants to be there”. However, Q95 has not independently verified the factual correctness of that allegation, and will make every effort to speak to Mayor Irene John, so as to get her take on the matter. Toussaint went on to say everyone at the Roseau City wants Mayor Irene John to ratify Augustine as town clerk, as she was the individual who was voted to be the town clerk, by the majority of the Council’s executive. Toussaint continued to claim that the failure of Mayor Irene John, to give effect to the appointment of Irma Augustus as City Clerk, is unfair to her, and to the workforce at the Roseau City Council.
