Dominica has secured first place in the Senior Division of the 2019 FCCA Environmental Poster Competition. Saint Mary’s Academy School student, Hilary N. Lawrence, emerged first place winner in the senior division of the 2019 Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Poster Competition. Hilary will be awarded cash prize of USD$ 3,000, by the FCCA for securing first place in the senior division of the competition. In addition, a special luncheon will be held in Hilary’s honor aboard a cruise ship during the 2019/2020 cruise season. This year’s competition was held under the theme” SOLUTIONS FOR OCEAN POLLUTION”.
Hilary’s win also afforded his school, the Saint Mary’s Academy, USD $3,000 by the FCCA. Samuel J. Fontaine from Warner Primary School who also participated in this year’s competition, will be receiving a check for USD$200, for achieving the final round on the 2019 FCCA Poster Competition. Last year, Dominica also secured a winning spot in the competition when the Dominica Grammar School secured 2nd place in the 2018 FCCA Environmental Poster. Held annually, the FCCA Environmental Poster Competition seeks to promote and stimulate in environmental awareness among Caribbean students, while effectively educating our younger generation on the importance of environmental protection. This win contributes greatly towards the promotion of the destination. Additionally, this demonstrates that Dominica’s youth is actively playing their part as “Tourism is Everybody’s Business!” Participation in the 2019 FCCA Environmental Poster Competition came from the Warner Primary School, Dominica Grammar School, St. Luke’s Primary, Orion Academy and Saint Mary’s Primary. The annual FCCA Environmental Poster Competition is locally coordinated by the Ministry of Tourism & Culture through the Discover Dominica Authority. The local selection of the posters for submission to FCCA was judged by local artists of the Waitukubuli Artist Association. DDA appeals to the various primary & secondary schools on island to work with students for continued participation in future competitions aimed at increasing tourism awareness.
