Senator Delbert Paris, a civil engineer and experienced community leader, has officially announced his bid to contest the Political leadership of the United Workers Party (UWP), and he seems to be receiving widespread support. He made the announcement today Thursday, ahead of the UWP's delegate’s conference which is scheduled to take place on December 15, 2024.With a background in civil engineering, construction and agriculture, Paris emphasized his unique blend of professional expertise and leadership experience, stating that his candidacy is driven by a desire to lead the party and the country toward a prosperous future. Paris, who joined Dominica’s Parliament two years ago, has focused on analyzing the country’s finances, policies, and governance. His leadership approach, which emphasizes sustainable & people-centered goals, has garnered significant public support. He said “I have the drive, determination& capacity to advance the party & the country’s mission. With my experience in construction and agriculture, along with my community involvement, I bring practical, sustainable solutions to key sectors of the economy.” Paris outlined his vision to revitalize the UWP, focusing on reenergizing the party’s base and broadening its appeal to youth, the private sector, and new supporters. He stressed the importance of uniting experienced leaders with fresh, energetic voices to strengthen the party and build a more inclusive political movement Paris believes he has character and strategic plans to ensure the support base of the party grows and the majority of the Parliamentary seats to be contested will be won.
