Senator Isaac Baptiste wants more details from House Speaker on reasons for new security measures7/26/2017 Meanwhile, UWP Senator, Isaac Baptiste, says he welcomes any move made to improve security at the Dominica Parliament building. However, he called on the Speaker of the house to provide further details on the reasons for these new measures. House Speaker Alix Boyd-Knights has indicated that efforts will measures will be implemented geared at enhancing security in parliament. In a statement, she indicated this was in light of certain events at the Parliament building, but did not divulge any further details. Meanwhile, Baptiste says he has numerous questions as it relates to the budget estimate figures.
Prime Minister Skerrit who is also Finance Minister, will deliver his budget address tomorrow, with estimates of expenditures amounting to about $854M. The total sum of $854,355,783 is estimated for meeting expenditures of services for the year ending June 30th, 2018. Isaac questions the extent to which the budget will address crime, unemployment, access to Dominica, and other issues affecting the country at this time.
