DFP president Johnson Boston shared some of the history behind the eligibility of voting and electoral reform. Speaking on the ‘freedom and you’ program last week, DFP President Johnson Boson took the general public a few pages back into the books and history of Dominica as it pertained to voter rights. Boston reminded the Dominican audience that women could not vote, and only their husbands could vote on their behalf. He also highlighted the times when one could not vote unless they had land and property, further highlighting the disparity in the social class and the inability to make changes In the society. Boston continued to highlight the many stages of the evolution process in electoral reform, thereby giving todays’ society many of the benefits we have today as a voting public. He then went on to elaborate on the many stages of electoral reforms so that persons could make a meaning contribution in deciding the direction that the country would head.Some of these surpassed the economic disparities or social echelon at the time.Boston says it appears this great foundation is now falling apart.
