At a discussion on electoral reform hosted by the Dominica Business Forum Inc. (DBF) last evening, former DBF president Severin McKenzie emphasized the need for a mature and thorough approach to reviewing the electoral bill. Speaking at the event, which took place from 6 p.m. at the Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU) conference room, McKenzie highlighted that, as Dominica approaches 47 years of independence, it is critical to ensure that the review process addresses all of the relevant issues that are germane to the comprehensive reform of Dominica’s electoral and campaign finance laws and regulations areas in order to ensure free and fair elections on a level playing field,to support and drive the nation’s democratic development. McKenzie expressed concerns over the ongoing electoral reform process, emphasizing that it should not proceed in isolation by any one political interest group. He pointed out that several recommendations made to the electoral reform bills were omitted from discussions, raising questions about the comprehensiveness of the DLP proposed changes.
