The Executive Committee of the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) has accepted the resignation of Mr. Bernard Hurtault as interim political leader of the party, bringing to an end more than five years of service in the position.
In a statement, the party said Hurtault submitted his resignation in a letter dated June 10, 2026. The Executive Committee expressed gratitude for his contribution to the organization and extended its best wishes for his future endeavors. The DFP noted that since its establishment in 1968, the party has remained committed to the principles of democracy, the rule of law and the promotion of good, accountable and responsible governance in Dominica. It said that the party has served the country faithfully both in opposition and while in government, consistently advocating for higher standards of political discourse and encouraging meaningful public participation in shaping the nation's democratic and economic development. Reflecting on its tenure in office from 1980 to 1995, the party stated that many regard that period as one of the most significant eras of growth and development in Dominica's history. According to the DFP, the country experienced economic expansion through growth in sectors such as agriculture & tourism, alongside the establishment of businesses & industries that generated employment opportunities.
