Tourism Minister Robert Tonge says the Caribbean region is undoubtedly in the direct path of all weather systems, leaving the coast of West Africa. He says additionally, the region is not only threatened by hurricanes and tropical storms, but volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, and possible tsunamis. He says each of these systems have the potential to unleash catastrophic consequences on the Caribbean's fragile economies and islands, calling for utilization of ICT based technologies to mitigate against these disasters. He was speaking at a 3 day stakeholder forum on the role of telecommunications, ICTs for Disaster Management and risk reduction which comes to a close on Thursday.
