US Embassy in Barbados advises US citizens in Dominica to exercise caution in areas of protests2/7/2017 The US Embassy in Barbados has advised US citizens in Dominica, to avoid areas of demonstration, and to exercise caution if they are in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests or demonstrations.
This advisory comes in light of demonstrations planned by a collaboration of the Parliamentary Opposition United Workers Party (UWP) and the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP), and Patriotic Dominicans in Dominica and overseas, which is expected to take place outside of government headquarters on Kennedy Avenue on Tuesday. The statement released Monday afternoon says "Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and can escalate into violence. US Citizens in Dominica should avoid areas with demonstrations, and exercise caution if they are in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations." Tomorrow's protest follows the arrest of Dominican born US Citizen Dr. Sam Christian on Thursday last week, for what officials say were efforts by him to unlawfully incite violence to burn down the Dominica parliament, during a public meeting at Peebles Park in Roseau in 2015.
