UWP and DFP accept police suggestion to hold protest action from 12 noon to 3 pm to maintain peace2/7/2017 Opposition Leader Lennox Linton says today’s protest is a demonstration of the public’s disgust with the continued presence of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit in office, after he has disgraced Dominica internationally. Speaking just hours before the intended peaceful demonstration Linton went on to say, there was no need to inform the police of the planned demonstration, however the organization did so as a courtesy, to ensure peace. The protest was intended to last six (6) hours, from 12 pm to 6 pm, however, the police commissioner decided to set guidelines, and insisted on allowing for four (4) hours only, beginning from 11 am – 3pm in the capital city. The two political parties decided to go along with police suggestion, in order to maintain peace.
At a press briefing yesterday, Police chief Daniel Carbon vowed the Police Force would “take all necessary lawful actions to prevent lawlessness, and to protect life and property.” The Opposition Leader is of the view the party accommodated police in their demands, on a matter where the police have no legal standing. He says he hopes that the police will return the favour in accommodating the public.
