Leader of the United Workers Party Lennox Linton says the DLP Government has disrespected Dominica’s constitution & its Parliament. He contends that the Government is constantly abusing its majority, and adjourning the matters being discussed in Parliament, in its favour. Meantime, Linton says he is shocked by the agenda set for the next session of Parliament carded for 23rd May 2017. The UWP leader told Q95fm Radio, that the purpose of the National Budget exercise has been undermined by the DLP Government. According to Linton the next session of parliament will be to discuss supplementary appropriations, because the Government is seeking approval from parliament, for having spent $154.7 million in excess of the amount that had been approved by parliament for the fiscal year 2016/2017. Meanwhile, Linton has called on members of the Electoral Commission to remember the oath they took, to protect and manage the electoral system, in a way which ensures free and fair elections.
His comments come as the Government gets set to bring legislation to Parliament next week, which will seek to get rid of legitimate necessary provisions against bribery. Linton asked the commissioners to consider how faithfully they have been carrying out their constitutional mandate.
